CLASP (Central Leith After School Provision) are a non-profit charity organisation based in Leith Primary School. The Covid-19 pandemic had a negative impact financially for the club as it did with most charities. Closures meant no money coming in but staff still had to be paid.
School’s Out In Leith
We managed to stay afloat and it was great when we were able to open back up for the families and children but unfortunately due to lack of funds, we had to make some cut backs. We had to stick to free trips/outings for the children and whilst this is still great, we felt like the children were missing out on experiences we could previously offer.
After applying for the Leith Community Fund, CLASP were awarded £1,000 and planned two amazing trips for the children during the Summer Club 2023. The first trip was to the Glasgow Science Centre. We hadn’t been here since 2018 so everyone was very excited and the bookings were full within a few days of the programme rolling out. We hired a coach and the children spent the whole day exploring the Science Centre learning about everything from electricity, the human body & mind to outer space and physics & engineering. It was a brilliant day had by all.
The second trip we had planned was Blair Drummond Safari Park. Again, we haven’t visited the safari park in a few years so everyone was super excited. We travelled by coach again and the children got to drive round near all the animals including lions and deer. We then spent the whole day learning about all the animals, watched a bird show and played at the kid’s facilities like the adventure playpark.
I am including some photos taken from the trip days and also just want to say a huge thank you to the Leith Community Fund for making this happen.
From all the staff and children at CLASP
